The Adventure of Mycroft
"Quick Watson!" Holmes ejaculated as he burst through the door of our lodgings at 221b Baker Street. "The game is afoot!"
My time in the army had taught me how to prepare in great haste and in ten minutes my companion and I were in the back of a hansom cab darting through the crowded London streets. I knew Holmes well enough to let him think, his knees drawn up underneath his chin, without interruption. Finally, when we reached the city limits, he brought his long, thin fingers up to his face and spoke to me.
"You remember my brother Mycroft, Watson?"
I assured him that I had and that I had even chronicled him in our adventure of the Greek Interpreter.
Holmes barely took notice. "Ah, yes. Trifling little matter, really. What we have now is much more serious. I fear Mycroft is in danger."
"Danger, Holmes; but how?"
"Mycroft has found himself in a most strange situation, Watson. His world is inhabited by sinister space explorers, wicked minstrels, and corrupt romance. His only friend is a retired basketball player with a biblical name."
My first instinct was that Holmes had returned to the needle but his face assured me that he was dead serious. "Whatever can we do Holmes?"
"The case is out of our hands, Watson. It is up to a band of irregulars from the new world to save my brother and his good name. I received the following telegram from Mycroft yesterday:
Holmes...need help, send:
Bill - guitar, vocals
Dave - drums
Doug - bass, vocals
Jerry - guitar
Holmes looked up from the telegram and continued, "Be prepared Watson. We are headed to the Diogenes club to see this band and I believe it will be loud tonight in the Stranger's Room."
